Pre-Professional Occupations in Healthcare

Pre-Professional Occupations in Healthcare is the first step in a healthcare career.  During this academy students learn about the many jobs available in healthcare and the education and training they need to get those jobs.  In addition, they learn about the skills needed to succeed, how hospitals operate and hear from various professionals in the healthcare sector.  Students also go on field trips to the Community College of Denver Lowery Campus, area hospitals and assisted living facilities as well as complete a project on a specific career path and an updated resume.  Youth receive certifications in American Heart Association CPR/First Aid/AED, Blood Borne Pathogens and ServSafe food handling and precautions safety. With their career path outline youth are then guided in follow-up to resources in post-secondary training as well as potential paid work internships at healthcare facilities.
